Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 is the latest golfing game from EA Sports. In the past we have had games like PGA Golf Tour Series and the like but with such a star in the midst of the golfing world I suspect it was only a matter of time before EA dedicated a game to Mr. Woods.Overview:
This game is much like the rest of them in many ways but with a lot of improvements in relation to graphics, gameplay and player interaction. Although I like golf as a sport I’m not much of a golfing gaming fan and never really got to grips with the older ones so I never enjoyed playing them. But this one is a tad more enjoyable for the non-golf gaming fans like myself.
Gameplay:
First off the game doesn’t allow you jump straight into the deep end meaning that you have to learn the trade before competing with the professionals.
There is training program at the start of the game and you must go through this and get your shots to a reasonable standard before passing. It’s almost like follow the leader. The CG Tiger Woods will take you through it. Each shot is explained by a commentator telling the gamer what club and type of shot is ideal for the given scenario. Then watch as Tiger takes his shot. Afterwards it’s up to you to practise and try to emulate his shots. When you get through all the different scenario’s you can proceed with your gaming whether it’s a challenge in the PGA championship or just a round of golf on your own or in two player mode.
The game is pretty easy to play in that the analog sticks are used mostly for shooting with the other buttons for different options like choosing another club, look at the path to the hole etc. So after that it’s up to you to just play away at will and learn from your own mistakes like I did, and believe me there were a lot of those. The competition is no walk in the park or anything like that.
